Man Tries To Steal Delivery Van After Fleeing Officers In Westchester, Police Say

A man faces grand larceny charges after allegedly trying to steal a delivery van in Westchester while trying to flee officers who spotted him trying to break into another vehicle, police said. 

The suspect allegedly tried stealing a delivery van at 702 Central Park Ave. in Scarsdale, police said.

The incident happened on Tuesday, March 14 around 3:50 a.m., when police in Greenburgh responded to Old Lane in the Edgemont section of town after a suspicious person was reported to be in the area, Captain Frank Farina of Greenburgh Police said on Thursday, March 30. 

Once officers arrived in the area, an initial investigation found that someone had attempted to steal from a nearby vehicle. Police then found a man who immediately ran away from them. 

After this, officers soon located the man allegedly trying to steal a delivery van in the parking lot of 702 Central Park Ave. and apprehended him. 

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Yonkers resident Erich Cruz, was charged with the following: 

  • Fourth-degree grand larceny;
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
